TONIA & CALLUM
The brief was a vintage-style ring (but not too vintage) with a ruby at the centre. Callum and Emma had discussed a few different design options and landed on a classic trilogy with white diamonds to complement the red of the ruby.
Finding the perfect ruby for Tonia - the right size, shape and colour - took about 5 months in the end. Emma was hunting for a ruby with more red tones then pink, in a round cut at about 5mm plus in size. As they were looking for something quite specific, having a looser deadline helped as it meant there was less time pressure.
During that time, Emma had to keep this mission hidden from Tonia, who is a very good friend of hers. This is, of course, a regular part of Emma’s job, but even more tricky since they saw each other at least 2-3 times a week and chatting about her current commissions was a regular part of their conversations.
Tonia had planned their anniversary trip away to the Sunshine Coast and hadn’t shown Callum the accommodation - she wanted it to be a surprise. She had absolutely no idea that she was going to get a surprise of her own. Tonia did love the ruby, and hearing her recount the surprise afterward, Emma could tell the ring had become part of a memory she’ll treasure for a long time.
